Acquiring new customers is hard

Hey Reader,

It’s been a while. I hope you’re doing great!

In my last newsletter, I shared that I’ve been working on a new project. While I’m not starting a business from scratch, branching out in a new direction comes with its own challenges, especially having to build credibility and attract new customers all over again.

So today, I want to share a few customer acquisition strategies that can help if you’re launching a new business or expanding into a new market.

1. Start With Your Network

Pitch your products or services to business-owner friends, former colleagues, or acquaintances. Since they already know your expertise and dedication, they’re more likely to give you a chance or at the very least, provide valuable feedback to refine your pitch.

2. Have a System in Place

Cold calling or emailing without a plan is a recipe for wasted effort. Curate a customer list that fits your ideal profile and track every interaction like who you contacted, follow-up dates, and key takeaways. A simple spreadsheet works, but free CRM tools (like HubSpot) can streamline this process.

3. Record Your Calls & Learn From Them

(With permission, of course!) Listening back to calls can help you spot where you drift off topic, miss important customer cues, or mishandle objections. Improving these small details can dramatically refine your pitch.

4.Treat Rejections as Learning Opportunities

A “no” isn’t the end of the road. It’s a chance to ask:

  • How are they currently solving this problem
  • What challenges do they face that you could address

These insights can help you fine-tune your approach or even uncover new business opportunities.

5. Be Ready to Pivot If Needed

A successful business solves a problem customers are willing to pay for. If you’re consistently hitting a wall, ask yourself:

  • Is this the right market?
  • Does my offer truly solve a pain point?
  • Am I positioning it correctly?

Don’t give up too soon, but stay flexible—every lesson learned makes you a stronger entrepreneur in the next round.

I hope this helps! For those who’ve started a business, how are you tackling customer acquisition? I’d love to hear your insights—reply and let me know! Talk soon!

Successfully,

Rozanne
