Hey Reader,
A few days ago, I watched the documentary Martha on Netflix. It chronicles the incredible journey of Martha Stewart, an icon who transformed the way we think about home living.
The film begins with Martha as a little girl from a modest background, learning gardening from her perfectionist father, not as a hobby but as a means to put food on the table. Fast forward through 80 years of resilience, reinvention, and relentless work, and she became America’s first self-made female billionaire.
As I watched, one thing stood out: her life’s path, with all its twists and turns, seemed almost inevitable in hindsight. Every seemingly unrelated event was a stepping stone to her ultimate purpose.
The Search for Purpose
Like many of us, I’ve wrestled with the question of life’s purpose. We dive into podcasts, books, articles, and newsletters, searching for clarity. Yet, despite all the wisdom we consume, the answer often feels elusive.
But here’s a thought: what if we zoomed out—way out—and looked at our lives from a mountaintop perspective? What if we saw the bigger picture? Suddenly, the intricate web of experiences, both good and bad, starts to make sense.
Even the most challenging moments weave together into a masterpiece, harmonizing as vibrant strokes on the canvas of our lives.
A Powerful Question
As the documentary inspired reflection, I recalled a profound question I once heard:
“What is the one thing you have to do before you die?”
The moment I asked myself, I knew the answer. It confirmed something I had felt all along.
Why is this question so important? Because discovering your purpose declutters your life of distractions. It helps you focus on what truly matters: your unique contribution to the world.
It’s not just about personal success or financial gain. It’s about making life better for others, whether through a message, a product, or a service that only you can create because of your unique life experiences.
The Reward of Purposeful Living
Here’s the paradox: when we focus not on enriching ourselves but on enriching others, we naturally reap rewards. Fulfillment, success, and impact follow when we give unselfishly to the world.
